This project presents an opportunity for our community to help shape the future development of the Gowanus and Narrows Peaker Plant sites, which have polluted our communities for generations and are now expected to retire as soon as Spring 2027.The sites of the two peaker plants were designated BOA strategic sites in UPROSE’s Sunset Park BOA plan, making them eligible for certain benefits if redeveloped in alignment with the community’s BOA plan. This year we’re taking a major step toward realizing a Just Transition and decarbonizing the neighborhood by pushing for the declaration of the neighborhood as a Special Purpose District which would put the fate of development in our neighborhood directly in our hands. The possibilities for what we can build together are only limited by our imagination and our ability to think and plan selflessly with the good of all in mind.
